AAACtion  News

An online newsletter of
The Association of African American Churches of the C&MA

June 12, 2008 Vol 1 Issue 4

“But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.” I Corinthians 15:12-14

We need men of God who are not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ!  Many surveys do not paint a glorious picture of the status of African American men.

To be true it is a challenge to engage men of any culture into the ministry and fellowship of the church.  In the African American community we are faced with extra challenges.  Each AAAC is encouraged to use Father’s day and other times to reach out to the men in the community.  Here are a few ideas:

  1. Father’s Day Appreciation Breakfast or luncheon.  Invite the young men in the community as well. This can be done on Saturday or Sunday.

  2. Father’s and child’s Basketball game.  This can be held around Father’s day or later.  Go to a local gym and secure the facility for a day of fun.

  3. Men’s night out at the movies.  Catch a great male flick reaching men of all ages.

  4. Men’s Barbecue and grill.  Have several men grill their favorite dish.  Invite others.

  5. Men’s night at the NBA.  The NBA playoffs are in full competition.  Secure a section at your local pizzeria or restaurant that has great TV monitors and invite all the men from your community.

  6. Sport’s team.  Start a softball or basketball team for the men or for their children.  Father’s, uncles and cousins all come out to watch their children play ball.  Call your local Rec center for how to start a team.  It is low cost and fun.

  7. Conduct a weekly men’s bible study group that features topics that ministers directly to men’s needs.

  8. Establish a men’s choir or singing group at church.

  9. Plan and recruit men to attend a Christian camp or conference.

Bridge to Senegal, 2009

Colorful brochures and posters have been mailed to you inviting you and members from your congregation to join Alliance Missionaries in Senegal, West Africa, and experience C&MA missions firsthand. You can minister to people who don’t know Jesus, November 6-16, 2009. If you are interested in joining the Bridge Senegal Team or would like to sponsor a team member’s trip, contact the short-Term Missions Office or go to: http://www.cmalliance.org/im/imserve/stmo/stmo.jsp.  Click on "Vision Trips".

We have had some technical difficulties in bringing our registration process online for Bridge Senegal 2009, however the site is now up and running.

The Fall season is always a time for family gatherings.  The Association of African American churches is calling all pastors, friends and supporters to join us in Birmingham , Alabama November 14 and 15th , 2008, for our Bi-Annual Family Gathering.  Michael Jones has been confirmed as a speaker for the conference.  Michael Jones is a favorite speaker for the AAAC because he has a glorious gift of blending stewardship principles with everyday realities.  Michael will bless you and your ministry as he teaches us how to move our ministry from a “church” model to a “community” model.  Michael will help us to answer the question, “If your church suddenly disappeared from your location, would anyone in the community miss you?  He will help us to develop ministries that impact the community in meeting the felt needs of the area.  Michael will provide you with an array of resources for grants and community based funding that helps you to fund your vision.

Inform your Governing Board now to plan your trip to Birmingham.   We will also work closely with your District Superintendent to assist you in getting to this conference.  More information will be sent to you by the end of June 2008.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact us today.
