in this issue

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him." Matthew 2:1-2

Christmas 2009

Special message from the President:

O Come let us Adore Him!

My prayer for you is that the peace and joy of Christ may comfort you as we celebrate his birth.  The songs, the hope and the promise of the season all herald the wonderment of His prophetic arrival.  As we also wind down a year spent in the presence of the Lord,  I can’t help but give him praise.  The Lord has brought us through 2009 with some ups and downs along the way.  But all along the way He has been with us.  He gets the Glory out of this year.  His strength has been with us at home, at work and in our community.

Remember, that the Babe in the cradle grew up to be the man on the cross.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Sincerely,

Rev. Terrence L Nichols

Bridge Senegal 2009

                  The Bridge has been Crossed!

November 5-16 will go down in history as a breakthrough moment for the C&MA has 22 African American short-term missionaries journeyed to Senegal to minister in four areas:

·         Medical missions

·         Music Ministry

·         Prison Ministry

·         Pastor’s and Wives’ Training

Special thanks to Donna Baptiste, Missions Mobilizer for the AAAC who was the Director of Bridge Senegal.  Donna did an outstanding job of coordinating this vision from start to finish.

Watch for the February, 2010  Alliance Life Magazine!

The February 2010 issue of Alliance Life (alife) magazine will include several reflections from the recent Bridge Senegal missions trip Donna Baptiste, the principle visionary and director of Bridge Senegal, paints a compelling picture of the “once marred, now mended “ mosaic representing the African-American legacy of missions in the C&MA. AAAC President Terrence Nichols bears witness to a revival of this legacy through the “bridge” God is building between African Americans and the Senegalese, noting that “the children of those who left the country literally bound, returned to free those who were now spiritually bound.” And Sarah Butler, member of the alife staff, reflects on this event as a pivotal milestone in her life, as she rediscovered her heritage in a place where “I could look into anyone’s face on the street and literally see my own.”

Don’t miss this groundbreaking issue, due for release on February 1. www.alliancelife.org.

Christmas in Senegal by Doug Conkle, team lead Senegal

Living in Senegal during the month of December is quite the striking, cultural difference compared to living in the States. There are hardly any external reminders of the Christmas season. There is no hustle and bustle to get caught up in, no Wal-Marts, no malls, no Salvation Army volunteers ringing bells at the red kettles, no fresh cut Christmas trees, no snow, or Christmas music playing in the stores....

We miss the traditions and the ambiance of the season, but I’m also reminded that those things that often surround the Christmas Season have absolutely nothing at all to do with it!

Living in a predominantly Muslim culture where December 25th is just another day of the year, has given us a meaningful glimpse of what the season is really about.  It forces us to truly evaluate what Christmas means.  And what we hope it will mean to many Senegalese in the years to come as God uses our efforts to bring people into His Kingdom.

What did your church do to reach out to your community during the holidays!  We would love to feature your church.  Please email us your stories.

Thought for the Day                                         Happy New Year!

A new year equals a new dawning…a new start.  May the Lord grant you all of the new year dreams and visions that he has poured into you.  Take some time to rest! We will need it for our bodies, minds and spirits in order to be fit for the tasks ahead.  Happy New Year!
